At present, the production of high alumina bauxite clinker in my country is still dominated by calcined natural blocks. Compared with high alumina bauxite clinker, the bauxite homogenizing material adopts technologies such as homogenization and purification, and the production process is more energy-saving and environmentally friendly, and at the same time, it can ensure the stability of product quality. These two kinds of bauxite raw materials have their own advantages and disadvantages. Correctly understanding the differences between the two kinds of bauxite raw materials, rationally utilizing their respective advantages, and developing high-quality synthetic materials are the urgent problems to be solved in the research of bauxite homogenizing materials. In this regard, some researchers reveal the differences between the two raw materials by in-depth analysis of the properties of the two raw materials and their microstructures, crystalline phases and crystal development, so as to understand and apply alumina homogenizing materials more reasonably.
High alumina bauxite clinker is the clinker obtained by calcining the mined bauxite ore in a shaft kiln at 1550℃~1600℃ after beneficiation. The other is bauxite homogenizing material, which is a clinker obtained by processing the mined bauxite ore through beneficiation, crushing, grinding, granulation, molding, drying and calcination (1560℃~1600℃).
The appearance of high alumina bauxite clinker is light gray and yellow-white, heavy and hard; the appearance of bauxite homogenizing material is uniform dark gray. From the test results of physical and chemical properties, it can be seen that the chemical composition of the two raw materials is not very different, the mass fraction of Al2O3 is above 80%, and according to the ratio of the content of Al2O3 and SiO2, it can be seen that theoretically the phases of the two raw materials are corundum phase and mullite phase; the difference is that the density of bauxite homogenized material is larger than that of high bauxite clinker.
To sum up, the density of high alumina bauxite clinker is uneven, the bulk density is low (3.32g/cm3), the porosity is high (4.19%), and most of them are open pores, and the water absorption rate is high. However, in the dense corundum phase or the closely interlaced part of corundum phase and mullite phase, it can support it to withstand external load and high temperature, and the glass phase content is small, so its high temperature performance is good.
The bauxite homogenizer has a dense and uniform structure, high bulk density (3.42g/cm3), low porosity (0.84%), mostly small and uniform closed pores, and low water absorption. Due to the homogenization process, the composition and structure of the homogenized material are more uniform, but a large number of uniformly distributed glass phases are filled between the grains, which weakens the intergranular bonding force and weakens the high temperature performance of the homogenized material to a certain extent. However, the alumina homogenized material is used as the raw material in the form of particles, or added to non-oxide refractory materials such as Si3N4 and SiC that exist in more isolated phases, which can reduce the influence of the high temperature performance of the glass relative to the system and improve its use value. . Therefore, the alumina homogenizer is more suitable for the production of alumina and non-oxide composite materials.
